Bula Beachcomber Island

We were up at 7.30 this morning although I was not sure if Tanya was going to be up for our day trip as she had been up through the night with what she calls “squitty bum” and stomach cramps and she also had a sore throat that she got yesterday....so things were not looking good. We went to breaky but she did not eat but by the time we had to go meet the boat she was feeling better and had emptied her whole stomach contents, which was a good thing. And it was the most perfect weather with not a cloud in the sky so we really didn’t want to waste the day as every other day had predicted rain which is why I booked the trip for today. So off we went on the resorts little speed boat over to Beachcomber Island which took about 20 minutes. It really is paradise at these islands....we went snorkeling out about 500 meters on the edge of the reef & it was very cool, we even saw a little reef shark. Then we went out on a little boat to feed the fish which is very cool too and there were some pretty big ones that come to feed....we got lots of cool under water pics. Back on the island we watched them open the Lovo, which is a Fijian Hungi, & it was to be our lunch. And lunch was very nice and Tanya even was brave enough to eat something and it was all good and no more cramps. As it happened today, the QE 2 was docked in Fiji and there was a boat load of passengers on the island for the day, so of course they put special stuff on for them which included traditional dancers & fire dancers. It was so neat to watch and the fire dancers were just awesome, so we were pretty lucky to have gotten to see it. Then off we went for a swim in the crystal clear ocean to cool off, I got my eyebrows “tweezered” and then we waited to board our little boat back to the mainland. A quick dip in the pool and then off to have a shower and go back to the bar to await the Kava ceremony at 6pm. We have had Kava in Vanuatu & Tanya had it in Fiji when she was 16 but we went for another go even though we know that it tastes like muddy water with dirty socks washed in it...lol...The ceremony is cool and we got to have 2 drinks....mmmm mmmm. Dinner was fish again but we were a little disappointed with it as it was a bit dry but our entree of scallops was very good. We got chatting to a really nice English girl, who is coming on the village tour with us tomorrow, and she lives in Adelaide and is here to get her visa renewed so she can get permanent residency in Australia....she is a barber & beautician and has been sponsored and been working in oz for a long time but has been stuffed around trying to get residency...maybe she should have just come over with the boat people....would have been easier I reckon. Tanya got to Skype with her mum which she was excited about but kept getting cut off so had to give up. All in all today was fantastic and we said that we feel like we have been here for a week already, which has something to do with the very relaxed way of the Fijians and how they make you feel like you have known them forever....and everyone is on Fiji time (which is not on time at all). It’s 10.30pm now & time for sleep :)
Night xo
