The long walk and the locked gate.....

This morning saw us driving away from Wodonga and into the beautiful sunshine as there was not a cloud in the sky. Sue, Jamie and the family have been a delight to stay with but the road calls us once again. We are heading to Melbourne today, Box Hill to be exact to visit Alvo's Aunty Ros and Phil. We had plans of visiting Milawa and taste some goats cheese but we missed the turnoff so fate had it that we did not visit. We did pop into Benalla for a Chai Latte & some noodles so at least we got to see one town. The drive was the usual freeway run but the scenery was quite nice and it did not rain at all for a change. We arrived at Ros and Phil's lovely home where we were greeted with hugs and smiles. The puppies were also very excited to meet someone new. We had a cuppa and then decided to take the puppies for a walk to the creek lands so with Ros as our guide we were off. We walked through the cemetery, which I must say is very interesting and has an atmosphere about it that I have never felt in a place like that before. The graves are set among beautiful big trees and little paths throughout and when the wind blew it was very eerie. There were leaves all over the ground which added to the spookiness of the whole adventure. We walked for quite some time down along the creeks where the sound of the water was very grounding and the trees and plants were just beautiful. We walked and chatted and before we knew it, we were back in the cemetery on our return trip. As we wandered through the graves reading random names and dates the time got away so as we approached the gate.....it was locked.....yep, we were locked in the cemetery. Ros' pace quickened as she led us to another exit which....you guessed it, was locked.....so, over the the fence we clambered. I had to take a photo of Alvo as evidence. Ros was quite spritely getting over too I must admit as she was cracking up with laughter. We made it home and the puppies were quick to lay in their beds for a rest as we had been gone for an hour and a half. Of course for us it was wine time so Phil was obliging and Ros enjoyed a single malt whiskey. Nibblies were had by all and dinner was just scrumptious, lamb and vegetable stew with salad and lovely potatoes, broccoli and pumpkin topped off with some great conversation. Dessert was fresh blueberries, peaches and strawberries with ice cream. Now it is time for bed, tomorrow will bring some more adventures.
